SERVING THE EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE COMMUNITY
Login to Send MessageUCAR’s Next Generation Fellowship program is a prestigious, multi-faceted opportunity to engage with and learn from UCAR’s leaders in Earth System Science, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Science Policy. Each fellow receives $40,000 no-strings-attached stipend over two years ($10,000 per semester), an all expenses paid research trip to Boulder, CO or Washington DC (for science policy fellows), and the support of a like minded cohort.
The primary goal of this program is to facilitate engaged, motivated students in becoming changemakers in the field of atmospheric and Earth System Sciences. This is achieved through dedicated support along three tracks, focusing on scientific research, diversity and inclusion, and public policy. The Next Generation Fellowship is an equitable collaboration between a graduate student (the Fellow) and their track mentors.
Each year UCAR receives applications from graduate students across the world who are interested in furthering their research in one of three Fellowship tracks: Earth System Science, Diversity and Inclusion, and Public Policy. Three graduate students are selected each year to participate in a two year fellowship, creating a rolling cohort of six students. Students of any nationality or citizenship are welcome to apply to the Earth System Science or Diversity and Inclusion tracks. Students applying to the Public Policy track are required to be US Citizens.
The Next Generation Fellowships offer graduate students the opportunity to learn alongside leaders in their fields. Just as important, these programs bring an infusion of fresh ideas and new perspectives to our organization. Each two-year award provides financial support for graduate school and two summer visits.
